Terms of use

These terms apply to the public pages of samoEKO. samoEKO is a brand of samoLabs, owner Armin Imamovic, Koelner Landstrasse 36, 52428 Juelich, Germany. Use is free of charge and needs no account. The situation map for agencies opens only after activation.

samoEKO shows readings from official stations, satellite data and its own analyses. We pass on official values unchanged. They are provisional until the station operator has validated them. Calculations such as the particulate plume are labelled as calculations and are not measurements. samoEKO does not replace official warnings: in an emergency, follow the instructions of the competent authorities.

Anyone who quotes or reuses texts, maps, graphics or analyses from samoEKO names samoEKO as the source and links to the page the content comes from. In print, on television and on radio, where a link is not possible, the address samoeko.com is enough.

On this condition, anyone may, including for commercial purposes: a) use excerpts from our texts, b) show screenshots of maps and graphics, as long as the map's source line stays legible, c) use our analyses, meaning figures, levels and time series, in their own reports, articles and papers, d) turn them into material for teaching and talks.

Taking over whole texts or pages, or retrieving or mirroring content automatically in bulk, requires our written consent. You may use the name samoEKO to credit the source, but not in a way that suggests we work together. Please use our logo only after asking us.

Every data and air quality page carries the matching pattern, ready to copy.

Much of the data does not come from us. Official readings come via the European Environment Agency (EEA) from national monitoring networks, in Bosnia and Herzegovina from the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute (FHMZ) and the Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Republika Srpska. Forecasts come from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS, ECMWF), fire data from the European Union's EFFIS and GWIS and from NASA FIRMS, boundaries from OpenStreetMap and wind data from Open-Meteo.

These data keep their own licences. We attach no additional conditions to them and claim no rights in them. Anyone using them credits the original source as its licence requires. The full list with licences is on the data sources page. Boundaries from OpenStreetMap are licensed under ODbL 1.0 and may only be shared under the same licence. If you found the data through samoEKO, we appreciate a mention. We cannot require it.

You may use readings from our own stations individually and in analyses, with the credit described in section 3. If you want them on a regular basis or in bulk, write to us and we will agree access through our interface.

If the credit is missing, we first ask for it to be added. If it is added within 30 days of our notice, the permission continues. Otherwise it ends for that use, and the statutory rules of copyright apply. The statutory right to quote is not affected. It, too, requires the source to be named.

You may link to any page of samoEKO without asking. Embedding our pages in other websites (iframe) is technically blocked. If you would like to show a samoEKO map on your website, write to us.

samoEKO currently shows no advertising. samoLabs pays for its operation, and station sponsorships and voluntary payments can support it. Sponsors have no influence on readings, locations, analyses or warnings.

Use is free of charge. We work with care, but cannot promise that every figure is correct and current or that the site is always available. We are liable only for intent and gross negligence. For injury to life, body or health and under the German Product Liability Act, we are liable in accordance with the law.

German law applies. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the protection that the mandatory law of that country gives you.
